The house is equipped with a Sonos sound system with speakers located throughout the house (the smaller ones are portable and can be brought outside during good weather). All you need to do is download the Sonos app to your mobile device or laptop, connect to our system, and you'll be able to stream all of your music from iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM etc. Each room can play from a different source, or you can have the whole house wired into the same tune.
The living room, master bedroom and kids bedroom are equipped with Samsung Smart HDTV sets. The master and living room TVs are connected to Apple TV boxes, the kids TV hooks up to the Xbox One. The Samsung SmartHDTV will let you stream your Netflix, Hulu, and other digital media up to the screen. The living room tv also has a basic HD digital cable box and DVD player. Use the Apple TVs to stream Chris and Andrea's personal movie collection (220+ movies, 50+ tv series).
The master bedroom features a dual gel memory foam king size mattress; the left side is somewhat firmer for those in need of support, the right side somewhat more plush for those in need of coziness. The first floor queen bed also boasts a memory foam mattress, as do both twin trundle beds in the kids' bedroom. Because kids are notoriously light and bouncy, the upper mattresses are high quality inner-spring. Chris and Andrea have occupied vacation rentals for years, and it's the beds that keep them coming back. A good night's sleep is, by their account, a requisite component of a relaxing vacation.
There's nothing quite like the great escape of a summer book. Whether you're at the beach, out in the yard, or cuddling up in bed, a good book engages the mind and relaxes the body. The owners have a bookshelf full of summer classics for all ages, including: hardcover collections of Harry Potter and Dr. Seuss, the Hunger Games, Magicians, and Hitchhikers Guide trilogies, an epic Stephen King collection, traditional classics such as Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, assorted works by Melville, Twain and Verne, a truly eclectic set of books about the Cape (Cape Odd being one of their personal favorites), and many more. It goes without saying that, as with any true Cape house, a copy of Peter Benchley's JAWS is somewhere on the shelves.
Cape Cod is beautiful, even when it rains. But it's an acquired taste, and the youngsters (and the young-at-heart-sters) will be happy to play video games to while away the hours when the storms come in. The XBOX One is connected to a 32" HDTV in the kids bedroom. Chris and Andrea have left a few family friendly games (sports, racing etc); and guests are certainly welcome to bring their own. Please make sure that you sign out of any accounts (Xbox Live, Netflix, etc) before you leave. If you forget, change your password and remove any credit cards associated with the account as soon as possible.
Back in our day, Super Mario Brothers, Double Dragon, Contra, Tecmo Bowl, Excite Bike, and Blades of Steel were serious video games. Times have changed, but Nintendo still makes video gaming fun for all ages. The downstairs television is connected to a Wii mini with all of the beloved Wii Sports collection, Mario Kart, and Mario Kart wheel controllers for some family friendly video game fun. (Again, this is just in case it rains.)
Chris is an app and web developer, so WiFi is the lifeline for his business. Blast is Xfinity's fastest WiFi service offered in the area. At speeds up to 105 Mbps, you can stream high definition video to the TVs, play video games online, and connect multiple devices without a hitch. There are two networks on the property: a standard 2.4ghz network and a faster 5ghz network. The former network has broader range, the latter has greater speed. Older devices, and even some newer devices, will not register the 5ghz network. The Sonos system is connected to the 2.4ghz network. Check out the speed test run from the house at left, 113Mbps average download speed!
Ordered from Restoration Hardware, these high quality, classic games will bring the family together after a long day at the beach, shopping, or however else you might spend your time on the Cape. We have Monopoly, Scrabble, a poker set, and sundry other games to pass the time with family and friends.
Chris and Andrea are championship bocce and badminton players (as far as you know), and have purchased these sets for use at their Orleans home. The large back and front yards are conducive to lawn activities of all varieties. Pair these games with some music from the Sonos, a lobster bake or BBQ, and perhaps a glass of wine or blended drink from the Vitamix, and you have the essential ingredients for a fine evening party on the Cape!
